This Cookie Policy explains how bestpragueguide.com uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help a site work, remember your choices, and collect statistics. Cookies that are not strictly necessary require your consent.

2. How we ask for your consent

Under Czech law (§89 of Act No. 127/2005 Coll., which since 1 January 2022 requires prior opt-in consent for all non-essential cookies), together with the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, we obtain your consent before placing any non-essential cookies. We use a cookie consent banner built on Google Consent Mode v2 (Basic mode):

  • Trackers are blocked until you choose. No Google analytics or advertising cookies are set, and no data is sent to Google, until you accept.
  • You have equal, clear choices: an "Accept all" and a "Reject all" button of equal prominence, plus a granular settings option.
  • Necessary cookies are always on and do not require consent.
  • Your choice is stored in a first-party cookie named bpg_consent for 6 months, after which we ask again.
  • You can change your mind at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the website footer.

3. Cookie categories we use

Necessary (always on):

  • bpg_consent — first-party; stores your cookie-consent choice; duration 6 months.

Analytics (only if you accept) — Google Analytics 4, set by Google:

  • _ga — anonymous unique visitor identifier; up to ~13 months.
  • _ga_DFLT0NBRFK — GA4 per-property session state; up to ~13 months.

Advertising (only if you accept) — Google Ads, set by Google:

  • _gcl_au — first-party; Google Ads conversion attribution; ~90 days.
  • test_cookie — third-party (doubleclick.net); checks whether your browser accepts cookies; ~15 minutes (self-deletes shortly after).

Exact cookie names and durations may change as providers update their tools.

4. Cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics (Umami)

In addition, we use Umami — a self-hosted, cookieless, privacy-preserving analytics tool. Umami does not use cookies, does not collect personal information, and does not track you across websites; it produces only aggregated, anonymised statistics. Because it is cookieless and does not identify you, it sits outside the consent categories and runs as consent-exempt audience measurement, based on our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We disclose it here for full transparency.

5. Managing cookies in your browser

You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings, which let you block or delete cookies and warn you before they are set. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the website from working.
