Prague in June — Long Days, Festivals, and Outdoor Living

June is when Prague embraces summer. Average temperatures of 16–24°C, daylight stretching past 9 PM, and a festival calendar packed with music, theatre, and open-air events make this one of the city's most vibrant months. The crowds are building but haven't hit July–August peaks, and the long evenings transform how you experience the city.
Weather and What to Pack
June temperatures in Prague range from 13°C at night to 24°C during the day, with occasional hot days reaching 28–30°C. The month averages 8–9 rainy days, often as afternoon thunderstorms that pass quickly.
Pack: summer clothing with a light jacket for evenings and a rain layer. Comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle. June evenings are warm enough for outdoor dining in a T-shirt, but carry something light for river breezes.
Daylight peaks in June — sunrise before 5 AM, sunset past 9:15 PM. You get nearly 16.5 hours of light, which means evening sightseeing is entirely practical.
Events and Festivals
Prague Spring Festival (final concerts) — the festival that began May 12 concludes in early June. The closing concerts are often as memorable as the opening.
Prague Fringe Festival — an English-language performing arts festival inspired by Edinburgh Fringe. Theatre, comedy, dance, and music in intimate venues across Malá Strana and Old Town. Late May through early June.
United Islands of Prague (Spojené ostrovy) — a free open-air music festival on the Vltava islands and riverbanks. World music, jazz, indie, and experimental acts play on stages scattered along the river. No tickets needed — walk from island to island. Mid-June.
Prague Pride — the city's LGBTQ+ celebration with concerts, film screenings, panels, and a pride parade. Typically mid-August in some years but check dates — it has been held in June previously.
What's Open and What's Closed
Everything is open and operating on extended summer hours. Castle gardens, river cruises, Petřín funicular, beer gardens, outdoor markets, and swimming pools are all in full swing.
Náplavka riverside farmers' market runs every Saturday, and evening food events along the riverbank begin appearing on weekday evenings.
Crowds and Prices
June is high season. Expect significant crowds at Charles Bridge (midday is the peak), Prague Castle (from 10 AM onward), and Old Town Square. But the long days give you tools — visit major sights early morning or in the golden evening hours when tour groups have dispersed.
Hotel prices are at summer levels: €120–180 per night for mid-range Old Town hotels. Book at least 4–6 weeks in advance.
We start many of our June tours at 8 AM, crossing Charles Bridge when it's still manageable and reaching Prague Castle before the queues form. By the time the crowds peak at 11 AM, our guests have already seen the highlights.
Best Things to Do in Prague in June
Evening walks along the Vltava. June sunsets at 9+ PM mean you can dine outdoors and then walk the river in golden light. The stretch from the National Theatre south to Vyšehrad is beautiful and much less crowded than the Old Town side. We sometimes end our tours with this walk — guests are consistently amazed that Prague looks completely different in evening light than it did at midday.
United Islands festival. Grab a beer at a riverside stage, listen to world music, and island-hop along the Vltava. It's free, relaxed, and quintessentially Prague. The festival uses Střelecký Island, Slovanský Island, and the Náplavka riverbank as stages. Between sets, you can walk along the water and watch kayakers paddle past.
Beer gardens at their peak. Letná and Riegrovy Sady beer gardens are at their best in June — warm evenings, long light, and views of the castle turning golden. Arrive before 6 PM on weekdays for the best seats at Letná. The half-litre of Pilsner costs about 55–65 CZK (as of 2026), and the grilled sausages from the food counter are better than anything near Old Town Square.
Prague Castle gardens in full bloom. The Royal Garden, the Garden on the Ramparts, and the South Gardens are at their most beautiful in June. The rose beds and Renaissance landscaping provide a green contrast to the stone architecture. These gardens are free to enter and offer elevated perspectives of the city that ground-level walking doesn't provide.
Day trip to Český Krumlov. June weather is ideal for the 170 km drive south. The town's castle gardens, river, and medieval streets are lush and warm. The Vltava is warm enough for canoeing, and river outfitters offer 2–4 hour float trips through the town.
Outdoor swimming. Divoká Šárka, a natural gorge and swimming area on Prague's western edge, opens its outdoor pool in June. Podolí swimming complex has heated outdoor lanes with a riverside setting. Žluté Lázně on the Vltava has a sandy beach area with loungers, a bar, and a relaxed riverside atmosphere.
Rooftop terraces and open-air dining. June is when Prague's rooftop bars come into their own. T-Anker on the roof of the Kotva department store overlooks Old Town Square. Cloud 9 at the Hilton has cocktails with panoramic views. And dozens of smaller terraces in Vinohrady and Karlín offer warm-evening dining without the tourist-zone premium.
Classical concerts in gardens. Some June concerts move outdoors — chamber ensembles play in palace courtyards, castle gardens, and park bandstands. The acoustics are different from church performances, and the setting — music drifting through a Baroque garden at dusk — is uniquely Prague.
Explore Stromovka and Letná Parks. Prague's two largest parks are at their lushest in June. Stromovka's old-growth trees and winding paths feel more like countryside than city. Connected to Letná Park, you can walk from the beer garden all the way to Prague Zoo through continuous green space.
Where to Eat in June
June's warm weather makes outdoor dining essential. Café Savoy in Malá Strana has a terrace sheltered from crowds. Lokál on Dlouhá serves traditional Czech food at honest prices — their fresh-tank Pilsner Urquell is poured perfectly. Eska in Karlín does fermentation-focused modern Czech food in an industrial space with a courtyard.
For a quick lunch between sights, the food trucks at Náplavka and the stands in the market halls at Holešovice serve everything from Vietnamese pho to Czech trdelník. The Saturday morning Náplavka farmers' market has peak seasonal produce — strawberries, cherries, and Czech herbs at their freshest.
Neighbourhood Exploration
June evenings invite longer walks through residential neighbourhoods. Vinohrady east of Wenceslas Square has tree-lined streets, Art Nouveau apartment buildings, and neighbourhood restaurants where the clientele is entirely local. Karlín across the river combines 19th-century architecture with Prague's best food scene. Both are accessible by tram in 10 minutes from Old Town.
Žižkov, with its legendary pub density and the TV Tower looming overhead, is where Prague's bohemian culture lives. Wander the streets after 7 PM when the bars fill and the neighbourhood's creative energy becomes visible. The contrast between the tourist center and these neighbourhoods is one of Prague's most instructive experiences — and one that only travelers who venture beyond the map's center discover.
